Top Ten Spot For Standing Construct Team at French GP
The Standing Construct KTM Team booked a solid top ten place in the French MXGP at St Jean d’Angely. Valentin Guillod who was riding his second Grand Prix after injury had a strong first race to finish tenth.
The technical, hilly track if St Jean d’Angely formed the backdrop for the tenth round of the world championship series. Qualifying took place under perfect conditions on Saturday. Guillod had a good start in the qualifying race and held his own with the top five initially. Due to his lack of race fitness, he slacked off later on and dropped to 18th. Kevin Strijbos had a catch up race. He started outside the top 20, and eventually worked his way up to 13th.
Some heavy rain overnight turned the track into a muddy, rutty monster on Sunday. Guillod had another good start in the first race. This time he paced himself and held on for tenth. Kevin Strijbos battled to find his rhythm initially, but battled for 13th spot. After a pitched battle with Max Nagl, he eventually finished 14th.
Strijbos had similar battles in the second race, and after some hard work he finished 15th. Guillod had another good start, but dropped back after avoiding some fallen riders. The first race had sapped his energy, and he rode a steady race to finish 19th.
Strijbos was 12th overall for the day and Guillod 14th. Strijbos holds 16th spot in the world standings and Guillod has climbed up to 25th. The series continues next weekend at Ottobiano in Italy.
