Lupino Scores Well in Pankal Pinang

The 12th round of the MXGP world championship series unfolded at Pakal Pinang in Indonesia last weekend. The country is known for monsoon rains and unpredictable weather conditions. It rained all Friday, and everyone was set for another wet GP at the venue. Conditions imporved however as the weekend rolled on.

Alessandro Lupino posted the 10th fastest qualifying time, and rode to 13th in the qualifying race. The Gebben van Venrooy Kawasaki rider had some misfortune in the first race, as he crashed after with an interaction with another rider, which completely erased the benefit of his good start. He rode steadily, and managed to finish 13th for a good points haul.

A worse start in the second heat gave Lupino a lot of work to do, but he maintained a steady pace and finished 11th. He was also 11th overall and is currently 14th in the world standing. The GP circus remains in Indonesia for the next round at Samerang next weekend.
